Can Changing Our Intention Change Our Life?
When we consider problem situations in our life, what if we start with a different intention? If we don’t set a positive intention, we sometimes end up with an unconscious negative intention we wouldn’t have chosen. Here are some examples:
Unconscious intention: “Showing I’m right and you’re wrong.”
What if we set a new intention: “Seeking to understand and discuss each other’s viewpoints”?
Here’s another unconscious intention: “Proving you caused this problem.”
What if we set this new intention: “Working together to find a solution that works for both of us.”
Those two examples involve human interactions, but we can set positive intentions for any situation we’re dealing with. Here are more examples:
Unconscious intention: “Getting through another day at this crappy job.”
Positive intention: “Spreading positivity and seeking to serve the needs of every person and situation I meet.” (Even if we don’t have our dream job, this can help us enjoy what we’re doing while we work on getting a better one.)
Unconscious intention: “OMG, I’ve got to drag myself through this stressful day.”
Positive intention: “I’ll try to be positive and strong as I do my best to improve this challenging situation.”
We can tailor our positive intentions for any situation we’re dealing with and change our mindset going into it. Examining and changing our intentions may not be easy at first, but with practice, choosing higher intentions causes a paradigm shift that can transform our experiences, sowing seeds for more peace and happiness in our life.
Here are affirmations that may be helpful reminders:
I listen to my heart and start this day with positive, loving intentions.
We are all doing the best we can at the present moment, and I seek to understand and connect to the people around me with loving kindness.
I am grateful for this day, and the beauty and opportunities around me.
I set my intention to spread positivity today.
