How to Get Unstuck
When we’re feeling stuck, it’s helpful to look at the big steps we could take to move forward. Why aren’t we taking those steps?
For example….
If we’re having difficulty with relationships, why aren’t we trying to improve communication, reaching out with kindness to find solutions that work for all?
If necessary, why aren’t we making a move to leave a bad situation?
Why aren’t we researching next steps in a current project so we can move forward?
Why aren’t we applying for jobs or marketing our services?
Most likely it’s because these steps are scary. Change isn’t easy. The outcome might not be what we want. We might fail or be rejected, get into stressful interactions—our imaginations tell us lots of stories about what could go wrong.
Okay, maybe we need to make peace with those possibilities. We may need to enlist help. Or face the prospect of rejection or unpleasant feedback.
People in contentious relationships are already having stressful interactions, so standing up and making a positive move can change things for the better. If the main risk is one more stressful conversation, it’s worth going into it with positive goals, considering everyone’s needs, and trying to work together for solutions (leave the blame game behind). Of course, if outside help or counseling is needed, make the call, don’t wait.
Most people who are marketing their services or products get rejected numerous times. So it’s not personal, it happens to everyone. Instead of letting it stop us, we can use it as feedback and keep moving toward our goals. People who aren’t trying often feel they’ve already failed, so how much worse can it get? One idea is to brainstorm a list of actions to take and try at least one a day. I like this Einstein quote: “I have not failed 1,000 times. I have successfully discovered 1,000 ways to not make a lightbulb.”
If we keep saying no to things, let’s ask ourselves if we really mean it. Are we letting fear keep us stuck? If we keep doing what we’ve always done, we’ll get the same results. So, let’s stop sitting there and start moving forward!
Here are some affirmations that may be helpful reminders:
I let go of fear and take steps every day in the direction of my dreams.
I am strong and capable of handling any challenge.
I learn all I can from setbacks and move forward toward my next adventure in life.
