Lessons of Love and Impermanence
“Except for love, nothing you see will remain forever.” —Rumi
When times are tough, reminding ourselves of impermanence can be helpful to bring us through difficulties. It’s comforting to know whatever we’re going through will eventually pass. A lot of what we’re worried about now won’t matter in a year. Change is guaranteed, and we can only try to chart our course in the right direction.
The knowledge of life’s impermanence can also help us focus on what’s really important in our lives, and who is really important. Life goes on, change happens, and then it’s over. And we never know when that moment will be.
When we remember that our time here to love and connect is limited, all of a sudden people take on greater importance than material things and the petty problems we often get wrapped up in. Whatever happens in our life situation, it’s the love we share that truly matters. All else will eventually pass.
So let’s appreciate the ones we love and connect with them. Especially right now when so many of us are isolated.
Today is our chance to show those special people we love them. There may be more chances tomorrow, but today will never come again, so let’s use it well. When we choose how to spend our precious hours, let’s choose for love.
Here are affirmations that may be helpful reminders:
Today I’m grateful for all the beauty in this precious day.
I listen to my heart and let it guide me toward more compassion and loving kindness for myself and everyone in my life.
When I have choices today, I choose love. I choose connection. I choose to spread happiness in every way I can.
